James Maloney (Canadian politician)

James Maloney (born October 13, 1959) is a Canadian lawyer and politician. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Etobicoke—Lakeshore in the House of Commons of Canada from 2011 to 2015 and again from 2019 to 2021. He is a member of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Maloney was born in Toronto, Ontario. Before entering politics, he practiced law. He has worked as a legal commentator on television.

In the 2011 federal election, Maloney defeated incumbent Conservative MP Bernard Trottier to win the Etobicoke—Lakeshore riding. He served on various parliamentary committees during his first term. In the 2015 federal election, he was defeated by Trottier.

Maloney ran again in the 2019 federal election and defeated Trottier to reclaim the Etobicoke—Lakeshore seat. He was subsequently defeated in the 2021 federal election by Conservative candidate Krystina Waler.

His parliamentary roles included membership and chairmanship in various committees related to Justice, Legal Affairs, and Public Safety.
