Jack Hayward (political scientist)

Jack Hayward (1931 – 2017) was a British political scientist known for his work on French politics, particularly the French state, and comparative public policy.

Hayward held academic positions at the University of Leicester and the University of Oxford. He was a leading scholar in the field of comparative European politics and made significant contributions to the understanding of state-society relations, policy making processes, and the evolution of political systems in Western Europe, with a strong emphasis on France.

His research explored themes of statism, dirigisme, and the role of the French bureaucracy in shaping policy outcomes. He also examined the impacts of European integration on national political economies.
