Michael Lee (speedway rider)

Michael Lee (born February 27, 1960) is a former speedway rider who represented Great Britain. He is best known for winning the 1980 Speedway World Final held at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Lee started his British league career with the King's Lynn Stars, quickly establishing himself as a promising talent. His aggressive riding style and determination made him a popular figure with fans. He also rode for other prominent British teams, including the Reading Racers and the Ipswich Witches.

In addition to his World Final victory, Lee also achieved success in other major speedway competitions. He was a multi-time British League Riders' Championship finalist and represented Great Britain in numerous international events, including the Speedway World Team Cup and Speedway World Pairs Championship. He formed a formidable partnership with Kenny Carter in the latter competition.

Lee's career was significantly impacted by a serious injury sustained in 1981. While he did return to racing, he was never quite able to replicate the form he showed before the injury. He continued to ride professionally for several years before eventually retiring from the sport.

After retiring, Lee remained involved in speedway, working as a team manager and mentor to young riders. His contribution to British speedway is widely recognized, and he remains a respected figure within the sport.
