Intervention (TV series)

Intervention is an American documentary television series that airs on A&E. Each episode follows one or two individuals struggling with addiction, usually to drugs or alcohol, or sometimes to compulsive behaviors like hoarding or eating disorders. The series documents their daily lives, showcasing the detrimental effects of their addiction on themselves and their loved ones.

The show culminates in an intervention staged by the addict's family and friends, guided by a professional interventionist. The interventionist confronts the subject with the consequences of their actions and offers them the opportunity to enter a rehabilitation program. The show then follows the subject's progress, or lack thereof, in treatment, typically for a period of 90 days.

While the success rates of interventions portrayed on the show have been debated, Intervention aims to raise awareness of addiction and its impact, and to highlight the potential for recovery. The series has been running since 2005 and has featured numerous individuals and diverse addictions. Its format is generally consistent: initial documentation of the addiction, followed by the intervention and the aftermath of treatment. The show has also spawned spin-offs and related programming.
