Matthew Hale (New York politician)

Matthew Hale (born circa 1829, died August 15, 1897) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. He served as a member of the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate.

Born in Elizabethtown, New York, Hale graduated from Union College in 1849 and was admitted to the bar in 1852. He established a successful law practice in Albany, New York.

Hale was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1858, representing Albany County. He served in the Assembly in 1859. Later, he was elected to the New York State Senate, serving from 1866 to 1869. He represented the 13th Senate District.

As a Senator, Hale was involved in various committees and legislative matters. He was known for his advocacy on issues related to legal reform and education. He also served as counsel for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad.

Hale was a prominent figure in Albany legal and political circles for many years. He died in Albany in 1897 and was interred at Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, New York.
