Ian Barker (jurist)

Ian Barker, born in 1935 and died in 2012, was a prominent New Zealand jurist. He served as a Judge of the High Court of New Zealand from 1976 to 1988 and subsequently as a Judge of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand from 1988 to 1997. He was known for his expertise in commercial law and his significant contributions to New Zealand jurisprudence. Following his retirement from the Court of Appeal, he practiced as a barrister and arbitrator. Barker was also involved in various legal education initiatives, including lecturing and publishing widely on legal topics. He was considered a leading figure in the New Zealand legal community for many years.
