IAR 813

The IAR 813 was a Romanian low-wing monoplane fighter and ground attack aircraft developed and used during World War II. Designed by Industria Aeronautică Română (IAR), it was an evolution of the earlier IAR 80 series. The primary difference lay in its more powerful Junkers Jumo 211Da engine, providing improved performance compared to its predecessors. The aircraft was armed with machine guns and cannons, and could also carry bombs. It saw combat on the Eastern Front, serving with the Romanian Air Force against the Soviet Union. Production numbers were relatively limited compared to other aircraft of the era. Its service life was ultimately curtailed by the changing tides of the war and the eventual switch of Romania to the Allied side. The IAR 813, while a capable aircraft, faced challenges in terms of production capacity and the rapidly advancing technological landscape of aerial warfare.
