Hundred of Bray (South Australia)

The Hundred of Bray is a cadastral unit of land division in South Australia, located within the County of Buckingham. Hundreds are subdivisions of counties, and were one of the basic divisions of land for administrative and land title purposes in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Hundred of Bray is situated in the southeastern portion of South Australia, near the border with Victoria. It roughly encompasses an area to the west and southwest of the town of Frances. Its boundaries are defined by survey lines and natural features, as documented in official South Australian government records.

Like other Hundreds in South Australia, the Hundred of Bray was surveyed and proclaimed to facilitate the systematic settlement and agricultural development of the region. Land within the Hundred was subsequently allocated through purchase, lease, and other forms of tenure. The establishment of the Hundred facilitated the recording of land ownership and other property rights.

The Hundred of Bray played a role in the early development of the surrounding agricultural districts. While the administrative functions of Hundreds have largely been superseded by local government areas and other contemporary structures, the boundaries of the Hundred remain significant for historical research, genealogical studies, and land title searches. Historic maps and land records often refer to properties by their location within a specific Hundred.
