Huanillos
Huanillos refers to a historical guano deposit site located in Peru. Specifically, Huanillos, along with other islands and coastal points, were significant locations for the mining and export of guano during the 19th century guano boom. This period saw intense exploitation of guano resources due to its value as a fertilizer, primarily in Europe and North America. Huanillos played a role in the economic and political landscape of Peru during this era, contributing significantly to the nation's revenue. The intense guano extraction, however, also led to environmental degradation and social issues. Today, Huanillos and other former guano sites are studied for their environmental history and ecological restoration potential. The name "Huanillos" evokes a specific chapter in Peru's economic and environmental past related to the guano industry.
