Har (Blake)

Har, in the mythology of William Blake, is one of the four Zoas, representing Reason. He is associated with the head and the north, and is often seen as a fallen or distorted aspect of reason, separated from Imagination, Feeling, and Instinct, which are represented by the other Zoas: Los, Luvah, and Tharmas respectively.

Har's fall from Eternity results in a separation between the intellect and other faculties, leading to error and the domination of abstract reasoning over lived experience. He becomes associated with moral law and restrictive thought, rather than true wisdom. This separation is a key component of Blake's critique of Enlightenment rationalism and its perceived negative impact on human creativity and spiritual understanding. The reunification of the Zoas, including Har, is necessary for the restoration of a complete and imaginative vision of Eternity in Blake's prophetic works.
