Hamburg Sea Devils (NFL Europe)

The Hamburg Sea Devils were a professional American football team based in Hamburg, Germany, that played in NFL Europe (formerly the World League of American Football) from 2005 to 2007. The team was named after the city's maritime history and its historical connection to seafaring.

The Sea Devils played their home games at the Volksparkstadion, the same stadium used by Hamburger SV, a prominent German football (soccer) club. The team's colors were dark blue, silver, and white.

In 2005, their inaugural season, the Sea Devils finished with a record of 5-5. In 2006, they improved to 6-4 but did not make the playoffs. Their most successful season was in 2007 when they won World Bowl XV, defeating the Frankfurt Galaxy 37-28 in front of a home crowd.

Notable players who played for the Hamburg Sea Devils include quarterback Casey Bramlet and running back Jermaine Allen. Several players went on to play in the National Football League (NFL) after their time with the Sea Devils.

When the NFL decided to discontinue NFL Europe after the 2007 season, the Hamburg Sea Devils ceased operations along with the other teams in the league. The NFL cited a desire to focus on international games and player development through other avenues as the reason for the league's closure.

In 2021, a new Hamburg Sea Devils franchise was established as part of the European League of Football (ELF). This is a separate entity from the former NFL Europe team, though it shares the same name and city.
