Winy Maas
Winy Maas (born 1959) is a Dutch architect, landscape architect, professor, and urban planner. He is one of the co-founders of the globally recognized architecture firm MVRDV, based in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Maas studied architecture at the RHSTL in Wageningen and at the Delft University of Technology. He co-founded MVRDV in 1993 with Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries.
His work often explores innovative and experimental approaches to urban design, space usage, and sustainable development. MVRDV's projects, under Maas's direction, are known for their density, stacked forms, and exploration of the possibilities within building regulations.
Maas is also actively involved in architectural education and research. He holds professorships at various universities, including the Delft University of Technology, where he is a Professor of Urbanism and Architecture. He is also a visiting professor at institutions worldwide and frequently lectures on his work and ideas related to urbanism and architecture.
