Cavapoo

The Cavapoo, also known as a Cavoodle, is a popular dog breed resulting from a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle (typically a Miniature Poodle or Toy Poodle). They are categorized as a designer dog breed.

Characteristics:

Cavapoos are generally small in size, inheriting traits from both parent breeds. Their coat is typically soft and wavy or curly, and can come in a variety of colors including black, white, brown, cream, gold, and combinations thereof. They are often described as having a teddy bear-like appearance.

Temperament:

Cavapoos are known for their friendly, affectionate, and playful temperament. They are generally good with children and other pets, making them a popular choice for families. They are intelligent dogs that are relatively easy to train.

Health:

As a mixed breed, Cavapoos may be prone to health issues common to both Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Poodles. These can include mitral valve disease (common in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels), progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), hip dysplasia, and luxating patella. Responsible breeders will screen their breeding dogs for these conditions to minimize the risk of passing them on to their offspring.

Grooming:

The Cavapoo's coat requires regular grooming to prevent matting and tangling. This typically includes brushing several times a week and professional grooming every few months. Their grooming needs can vary depending on the type of coat they inherit.

Hypoallergenic Considerations:

While often marketed as hypoallergenic, no dog breed is truly 100% hypoallergenic. However, Cavapoos may produce less dander than some other breeds, making them a potentially suitable choice for some people with allergies. The Poodle's coat is often considered to be lower-shedding, which contributes to this perception.
