Universytet (Kyiv Metro)
Universytet is a station on the Sviatoshynsko-Brovarska Line (Line 1) of the Kyiv Metro. It is located under Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, near Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, from which the station derives its name.
Opened on November 6, 1960, as part of the first stage of the Kyiv Metro, Universytet is known for its elaborate design and architectural significance. The station's platform is a vaulted structure supported by pylons faced with red marble. The upper part of the pylons features bas-reliefs depicting significant figures in Ukrainian and Russian science and literature. A large bust of Taras Shevchenko, a prominent Ukrainian poet and national hero, is prominently displayed at the end of the platform.
The station is a deep-level pylon station, meaning that it consists of a central hall flanked by two side halls separated by rows of pylons. Access to the surface is provided by escalators leading to a vestibule located at street level.
Universytet is a major transportation hub, serving students, faculty, and residents in the surrounding area. It connects to numerous bus and trolleybus routes. Due to its central location and proximity to educational and cultural institutions, the station experiences high passenger traffic.
