AFN Iraq
AFN Iraq (American Forces Network Iraq) was a component of the American Forces Network (AFN) providing radio and television broadcasting services to United States military personnel and their families stationed in Iraq during the Iraq War and its aftermath. AFN Iraq aimed to boost morale, provide news and information, and connect service members with home.
The network typically broadcast a mix of stateside AFN programming and locally produced content relevant to the troops serving in Iraq. This included news, sports, entertainment, and public service announcements. AFN Iraq also aired content specifically addressing the issues and concerns of deployed personnel, such as information on benefits, healthcare, and family support services.
AFN Iraq played a crucial role in keeping troops informed and connected to American culture while serving in a challenging and often isolating environment. The network served as a lifeline for many service members, providing a sense of normalcy and a link to the world beyond the war zone.
Following the drawdown of US forces in Iraq, AFN Iraq's operations were scaled back and eventually ceased as the need for a dedicated network diminished. While no longer operating under the "AFN Iraq" banner, AFN continues to serve US military personnel stationed overseas through its global network of affiliates.
