Habeas Corpus (album)
Habeas Corpus is a studio album by the American alternative rock band Throwing Muses, released in 1992. It was their fifth full-length album, released on Sire Records.
The album is characterized by its complex and often dissonant guitar work, unconventional song structures, and Kristin Hersh's distinctive vocals and lyrical style. Lyrically, the album explores themes of mental illness, fractured relationships, and existential anxiety.
Habeas Corpus received generally positive reviews upon its release, with critics praising its originality and the band's unique sound. However, its challenging nature made it less commercially successful than some of their earlier work. Despite this, it is often considered a fan favorite and a key album in the Throwing Muses discography.
Notable tracks on the album include "Red Shoes," "Static," and "Manic Depression." The album showcases the band's willingness to experiment with different sounds and textures, solidifying their reputation as one of the more innovative and influential alternative rock bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
