Wellington South (provincial electoral district)

Wellington South was a provincial electoral district in New Zealand. It existed for a relatively short period, from 1905 to 1911, covering a portion of the city of Wellington.

The district was created as part of boundary adjustments following the 1905 general election. Prior to its establishment, the area was largely covered by the City of Wellington electorate.

Wellington South existed for only two parliamentary terms. Its sole Member of Parliament was Francis Fisher, who represented the district from 1905 until 1911. Fisher initially won the seat as an Independent Political Labour League candidate, later aligning himself with the New Zealand Liberal Party.

In 1911, further boundary realignments abolished Wellington South. The area was redistributed into the newly formed Wellington Central electorate and other existing electorates in the Wellington region. As a result, Fisher contested and won the Wellington Central seat in the 1911 general election. The brief existence of Wellington South reflected the fluctuating demographic and political landscape of Wellington during the early 20th century.
