Foetus (band)
Foetus is the primary project name used by Australian musician JG Thirlwell for his extensive and varied musical output. While often referred to as a band, Foetus is essentially Thirlwell's solo project, although numerous musicians have collaborated with him over the years in both studio recordings and live performances.
The project began in the early 1980s and has explored a wide range of genres, including industrial, noise rock, big band, orchestral music, and electronica. Thirlwell is known for his use of dense, complex arrangements, aggressive rhythms, and darkly humorous lyrics. He also frequently incorporates sampled sounds and unconventional instrumentation into his music.
Over the years, Thirlwell has released albums under various Foetus-related names, including Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel, Foetus Corruptus, Foetus Interruptus, Foetus Über Frisco, and most recently, just Foetus. He has also used different names depending on the musical style he's pursuing at the time.
Beyond Foetus, Thirlwell has an extensive discography of other projects, including Steroid Maximus, Manorexia, and Xordox. He has also composed music for television, film, and video games, including the Adult Swim animated series The Venture Bros.
