HNLMS Tromp (F801)

HNLMS Tromp (F801) was the lead ship of the Tromp-class frigates of the Royal Netherlands Navy. These frigates were designed primarily as anti-aircraft warfare ships, though they also possessed significant anti-submarine capabilities. Launched in 1973 and commissioned in 1975, HNLMS Tromp served until its decommissioning in 2001.

The ship was named after Dutch Admiral Maarten Tromp, a prominent naval commander during the Anglo-Dutch Wars of the 17th century. Throughout its career, HNLMS Tromp participated in numerous exercises and operations, both independently and as part of NATO and other multinational task forces. Its advanced sensor suite and weaponry, including long-range radar and surface-to-air missiles, made it a valuable asset for air defense. Besides its military functions, the ship also participated in humanitarian aid and disaster relief missions. Following decommissioning, some of its equipment was reused on other Dutch naval vessels.
