Dig (woreda)
A woreda is a type of administrative division in Ethiopia. It can be broadly translated as "district." Woredas are subdivisions of zones (zonal administrations), which are themselves subdivisions of regions (kililoch). Woredas are governed by a local administration, responsible for local governance, infrastructure development, and the implementation of policies set by the regional and federal governments. The specific responsibilities and powers of a woreda can vary, but typically include managing local resources, administering schools and clinics, and overseeing agricultural extension programs. Woredas are further subdivided into kebeles, which are the smallest units of local government in Ethiopia. The number of woredas within a region, and the size and population of each woreda, can also vary significantly. The structure and governance of woredas have been subject to reforms and reorganizations over time, reflecting broader changes in Ethiopia's administrative framework.
