HMS Sunflower (K41)

HMS Sunflower (K41) was a Flower-class corvette of the Royal Navy that served during World War II. She was ordered on 31 August 1939 and built by Smiths Dock Co. Ltd. in Middlesbrough, England. Sunflower was laid down on 15 November 1939, launched on 6 June 1940 and completed on 28 September 1940.

As a Flower-class corvette, Sunflower was primarily designed for convoy escort duties, particularly in the North Atlantic. She was armed with a 4-inch (102 mm) gun for surface engagement and anti-aircraft defense, as well as depth charges for anti-submarine warfare. Later in the war, additional anti-aircraft weaponry was typically added to improve the ship's defensive capabilities.

Sunflower's operational history included escorting numerous convoys, protecting merchant ships from U-boat attacks. Details of specific convoy assignments and engagements can be found in wartime records. She served throughout the war and survived the conflict.

Following the end of World War II, Sunflower was disposed of. She was sold into civilian service in 1946 and renamed Southern Lily. Her subsequent history is tied to her civilian service.
