HMS Daedalus (1780)

HMS Daedalus was a 32-gun fifth-rate frigate of the Royal Navy, launched in 1780. She was designed by Sir Thomas Slade and built at Sheerness Dockyard. Daedalus saw extensive service during the latter years of the American Revolutionary War, the French Revolutionary Wars, and the Napoleonic Wars.

Service History:

During the American Revolutionary War, Daedalus primarily operated in American waters, engaging in patrols and capturing enemy vessels. She participated in several minor skirmishes and played a role in maintaining the British blockade of American ports.

In the French Revolutionary Wars, Daedalus was active in the Atlantic and the Caribbean. She participated in convoy escort duties and engaged French privateers. Notably, she was involved in the capture of several enemy ships.

During the Napoleonic Wars, Daedalus continued to perform similar duties, including convoy escort and anti-privateering patrols. She also saw action in support of British land operations.

Fate:

HMS Daedalus was eventually broken up in 1811.
