HMS C4

HMS C4 refers to a former submarine of the British Royal Navy. Part of the C class of submarines, HMS C4 was built by Vickers and launched in 1906. These early submarines were designed for coastal defense and harbor patrol. The C class submarines were improvements over the earlier A and B classes, offering better seakeeping and more powerful engines.

HMS C4 participated in naval exercises and patrols during its service. A significant event in its history occurred in 1915 during World War I. As part of a naval operation in the Baltic Sea, HMS C4 successfully torpedoed and sank the German cruiser SMS Undine near the Swedish coast. This action was a notable early success for British submarines in the war.

HMS C4 was decommissioned and sold for scrap in 1919, following the end of World War I. While not involved in any further combat, its service, particularly the sinking of the Undine, marks its place in naval history as one of the pioneering submarines of the Royal Navy.
