HMS Bellona (1794)
HMS Bellona was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched in 1794. She was built at Chatham Dockyard to the lines of the Arrogant class, although with some variations.
Her active service spanned the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. She participated in numerous fleet actions and single-ship engagements. One notable event was her capture of the French frigate La Courageuse in 1798.
Bellona also saw service in the Baltic Sea, participating in actions against the Danish fleet. She was involved in blockading enemy ports and protecting British merchant shipping.
After a long and distinguished career, HMS Bellona was eventually broken up in 1814. She is not to be confused with earlier or later Royal Navy vessels bearing the same name.
