Cey Adams

Cey Adams (born 1962) is a visual artist, graphic designer, and author who emerged from the New York City graffiti art scene of the 1980s. He is best known for his work in hip-hop visual communication, particularly his iconic album cover designs for artists such as Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and Notorious B.I.G.

Adams began his career as a graffiti artist under the name "Ceys 149" and was a member of the Death Squad. He transitioned into graphic design, co-founding the Drawing Board, a design firm that played a significant role in shaping the visual aesthetic of early hip-hop.

His design work extended beyond album covers to include logos, tour merchandise, and advertising campaigns. He has collaborated with numerous brands and institutions, including Marvel, Adidas, and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

In addition to his design work, Adams has exhibited his fine art in galleries and museums internationally. His artwork often incorporates elements of pop art, graffiti, and graphic design, reflecting his diverse influences and experiences. He is the author of "Def Jam Recordings: The First 25 Years of the Last Great Record Label," which documents the history of the iconic hip-hop label.
