HMS Artful (P456)

HMS Artful (P456) is an Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarine of the Royal Navy. She is the second submarine of her class.

The Astute class are designed as hunter-killer submarines, equipped with advanced sonar and capable of long-range deployment. They are armed with Spearfish torpedoes and Tomahawk land-attack missiles.

Artful was ordered on 26 September 2003, laid down on 11 March 2005, and launched on 20 May 2014. She was commissioned into the Royal Navy on 19 March 2016. Her home port is HM Naval Base Clyde (Faslane), Scotland.
