Alexander Raevsky (aviator)
Alexander Raevsky (1893-1964) was a Russian and Soviet aviation pioneer and aircraft designer. He played a significant role in the development of Soviet aviation during the early and mid-20th century.
Raevsky graduated from the Moscow Higher Technical School (now Bauman Moscow State Technical University) and later from the Sevastopol Military Aviation School. During World War I, he served as a pilot in the Imperial Russian Air Force.
Following the Russian Revolution, Raevsky joined the Red Air Fleet and contributed to the development of Soviet aircraft design. He is known for his work at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), where he participated in the design and construction of various aircraft, including reconnaissance aircraft and bombers. He held various leading positions within Soviet aviation design bureaus.
He received several state awards for his contributions to the Soviet aviation industry. While specific aircraft designs attributed solely to Raevsky can be difficult to pinpoint due to the collaborative nature of Soviet design bureaus, his overall influence on Soviet aviation development is well-documented.
