HMS Antrim (1903)
HMS Antrim was a Devonshire-class armoured cruiser built for the Royal Navy in the first decade of the 20th century. Commissioned in 1905, she served initially in the Home Fleet and later in the Mediterranean.
At the outbreak of World War I in August 1914, HMS Antrim was deployed to the South Atlantic as part of the British squadron searching for Admiral Graf von Spee's German East Asia Squadron. She participated in the Battle of the Falkland Islands in December 1914, contributing to the destruction of the German squadron. During the battle, Antrim focused her fire on the German armored cruiser Gneisenau, inflicting significant damage.
Following the Battle of the Falkland Islands, Antrim continued to serve in various roles, including patrolling and escort duty. She also participated in the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915, providing naval gunfire support to the Allied troops ashore.
HMS Antrim was decommissioned after the end of World War I and was subsequently sold for scrap in 1923.
