HD 88133

HD 88133 is a G-type main-sequence star located approximately 257 light-years away in the constellation Leo. It is slightly larger and more massive than the Sun, with a higher metallicity.

HD 88133 is of particular interest to astronomers due to the confirmed presence of a planet, designated HD 88133 b. This extrasolar planet is a hot Jupiter, meaning it is a gas giant with a mass comparable to Jupiter but orbiting much closer to its star. This close proximity results in a very short orbital period and high equilibrium temperature.

The planet was discovered through the radial velocity method, which detects variations in the star's velocity caused by the gravitational pull of an orbiting planet. Further observations and analysis have refined the parameters of the planet's orbit and mass. Studies of HD 88133 and its planet contribute to our understanding of planetary system formation and the prevalence of hot Jupiters around sun-like stars.
