Guojing

Guojing, also commonly romanized as Guo Jing, is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Condor Trilogy of wuxia novels by Jin Yong (Louis Cha). He is the central figure in the first novel, The Legend of the Condor Heroes (射鵰英雄傳), and a significant supporting character in the second novel, The Return of the Condor Heroes (神鵰俠侶). He makes a brief appearance in the third novel, The Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre (倚天屠龍記), through references made to his posthumous strategies.

In The Legend of the Condor Heroes, Guo Jing is portrayed as a simple, honest, and somewhat slow-witted young man, raised in Mongolia by his mother after his father is killed by the Jin army. He is loyal, righteous, and unwavering in his principles, which are heavily influenced by Confucian values. He is also deeply patriotic and dedicated to protecting the Song Dynasty from foreign invaders.

Throughout the trilogy, Guo Jing's martial arts skills develop from a basic level to immense power, mentored by several prominent martial artists. He masters several powerful techniques, including the Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms (降龍十八掌), making him one of the most formidable martial artists in the wulin (martial arts world).

His romance with Huang Rong, the intelligent and resourceful daughter of the eccentric martial artist Huang Yaoshi, forms a major subplot of the story. Their relationship is often tested by external forces, but their love and commitment to each other remain strong.

Guo Jing's legacy extends beyond his martial prowess. He becomes a symbol of integrity and patriotism, inspiring generations of martial artists. His actions and decisions are driven by a strong sense of justice and a desire to do what is right, even in the face of adversity. He is remembered as a hero and a role model in the jianghu (martial arts community).
