Grant Jackson (baseball)
Grant Jackson (born August 28, 1942, in Fostoria, Ohio; died February 2, 2021, in New Martinsville, West Virginia) was an American left-handed relief pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played from 1965 to 1982 for the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Montreal Expos, Kansas City Royals, and Toronto Blue Jays.
Jackson is best remembered for his contributions to the Pittsburgh Pirates teams of the 1970s, particularly the 1979 World Series championship team. He was a key member of the Pirates' bullpen during that era, often used in high-leverage situations. In the 1979 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles, Jackson pitched 5 1/3 innings over three games, allowing only one earned run and earning the Game 7 victory, securing the Pirates' championship.
Prior to joining the Pirates, Jackson was a starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He transitioned to a relief role later in his career, finding success with multiple teams.
Jackson's career statistics include a 86-75 win-loss record, a 3.46 ERA, and 48 saves in 637 games pitched. After retiring from baseball, he worked as a pitching coach.
