Google Pay (payment method)
Google Pay is a digital wallet platform and online payment system developed by Google to power in-app, online, and in-person contactless purchases on mobile devices, enabling users to make payments with Android phones, tablets, or watches. It uses near-field communication (NFC) to transmit card information to a merchant's payment terminal.
Google Pay also allows users to manage their loyalty cards, gift cards, and transit passes. It integrates with other Google services, such as Google Assistant, to provide a seamless and convenient payment experience. The service supports a variety of payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, and bank accounts. Security features include tokenization, which replaces sensitive card information with a unique digital identifier, and biometric authentication.
Prior to Google Pay, Google offered Android Pay and Google Wallet. These services were unified under the Google Pay brand to provide a more streamlined and comprehensive payment solution. Google Pay is available in numerous countries and regions, with support expanding over time. The platform competes with other digital wallet services such as Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.
