Glenn Lewis (artist)

Glenn Lewis (born 1935) is a Canadian artist known for his diverse practice encompassing performance art, sculpture, drawing, mail art, and ceramics. He is associated with the Vancouver art scene of the 1960s and 1970s and played a significant role in the development of Conceptual art in Canada.

Lewis studied at the University of British Columbia, where he was influenced by figures such as B.C. Binning. He was a founding member of the Intermedia Society in Vancouver, an influential interdisciplinary art collective active between 1967 and 1972.

His work often explores themes of communication, technology, and the body. Notable early works include his involvement with the "Poets on TV" series and his performative sculptures, such as "The Great Wall Snail." His mail art practice involved extensive correspondence with other artists around the world, contributing to a global network of artistic exchange.

In later years, Lewis has focused on ceramics, creating functional and sculptural pieces that reflect his interest in form and process. His work has been exhibited extensively in Canada and internationally and is held in the collections of major museums, including the National Gallery of Canada. Lewis continues to live and work in British Columbia.
