George Huddesford (academic)
George Huddesford (1749 – 1809) was an English academic, satirist, and artist. He was born in Oxford, the son of the Rev. George Huddesford, D.D., president of Trinity College, Oxford. He matriculated at Trinity College in 1766, graduated B.A. in 1770, and M.A. in 1773. He was elected a fellow of New College, Oxford.
Huddesford was known for his humorous and satirical poems, often illustrated with his own drawings. He published several collections, including "Salmagundi: A Miscellaneous Combination of Original Poetry" (1791) and "Topsy Turvy: With Anecdotes and Observations Illustrative of Leading Characters in the Present Government of France" (1793). His work often critiqued contemporary society and politics.
He was also a skilled portrait painter and exhibited at the Royal Academy.
