CJBN-TV
CJBN-TV was a Canadian television station, licensed to Kenora, Ontario, but serving Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was a repeater of CITV-DT Edmonton, Alberta, owned by Canwest Global Communications. CJBN broadcast on channel 13.
The station operated as part of the Canwest Global System (later Global Television Network). Its programming largely duplicated that of CITV, with some locally inserted commercials targeted at the Winnipeg market. This arrangement allowed Global to circumvent CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) regulations regarding national networks and local ownership, essentially providing Winnipeg with a Global station without a full local operation.
CJBN-TV ceased broadcasting on July 31, 2016, along with other Global analogue repeaters across Canada, due to the CRTC's decision to discontinue mandatory carriage of analogue television signals. Canwest, and subsequently Shaw Media (who acquired Canwest's broadcasting assets), opted not to convert the repeater stations to digital.
