Geoffrey Shaw (MP)
Geoffrey Shaw (1896-1978) was a British Conservative Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Batley and Morley from 1931 to 1945.
Born in Huddersfield, Shaw was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. Before entering Parliament, he was involved in the family wool manufacturing business.
In the 1931 general election, a landslide victory for the National Government, Shaw won the Batley and Morley constituency from Labour. He held the seat through the 1935 election. During his time in Parliament, he was known as a relatively quiet but diligent MP, generally supporting the Conservative government's policies. He did not hold any ministerial office.
Shaw lost his seat in the 1945 general election, which saw a Labour landslide victory. He did not stand for Parliament again. After leaving Parliament, he returned to business interests.
