Frank (comics)

Frank is a character appearing in a series of silent comic strips created by Jim Woodring. First published in 1991, Frank is a vaguely anthropomorphic, vaguely mammalian creature residing in the Unifactor, a surreal and often nightmarish world.

Frank is not a character in the traditional sense. He possesses a limited, often childlike intelligence and is driven primarily by simple desires and instincts. These frequently involve obtaining sweets called "dingbats," avoiding danger, and occasionally interacting with other bizarre inhabitants of the Unifactor, most notably his friend Pupshaw and his nemesis Manhog.

Because the comics are silent, Frank's personality is conveyed almost entirely through his actions and expressions. He is prone to fits of rage, moments of gleeful joy, and periods of abject terror. His behavior is often illogical and unpredictable, yet somehow relatable in its primal simplicity.

The Unifactor itself is a character in its own right. It is a chaotic and often dangerous place populated by bizarre creatures and governed by dreamlike logic. Frank's adventures are often harrowing, but his resilience and naive optimism allow him to navigate the Unifactor's perils.
