Francesco Carrara (archaeologist)
Francesco Carrara (1813-1888) was an Italian archaeologist and epigraphist. He is best known for his work on Etruscan inscriptions and artifacts, as well as his contributions to the study of Roman archaeology. Carrara held positions at the University of Pisa, where he taught archaeology and ancient history. He conducted excavations at various sites in Tuscany and Lazio, including Etruscan tombs and Roman villas. His research focused on the language, culture, and history of the Etruscans, and he published extensively on these topics. He made significant contributions to the decipherment of Etruscan inscriptions and the understanding of Etruscan society.
