Fever Tree (band)
Fever Tree was an American psychedelic rock band formed in Houston, Texas in 1966. Known for their distinctive blend of psychedelic experimentation, hard rock elements, and classical influences, Fever Tree achieved regional and national success in the late 1960s with hits like "San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native)" and "Hey Mister."
The band's original lineup consisted of Dennis Keller (vocals), Isaac Payton Sweat (guitar), Rob Landes (keyboards), E.E. 'Eugene' Thompson (bass), and John Tuttle (drums). The name "Fever Tree" was derived from the colloquial term for the cinchona tree, from which quinine, used to treat malaria and fevers, is extracted.
Fever Tree released three studio albums: Fever Tree (1968), Another Time, Another Place (1969), and For Sale (1970). Their sound evolved over these albums, moving from a more heavily psychedelic and garage rock influenced style to incorporate more progressive rock elements.
While experiencing lineup changes and facing the shifting musical landscape of the early 1970s, Fever Tree eventually disbanded. However, their music has maintained a cult following, and their recordings are considered representative of the psychedelic rock era. "San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native)" remains their most well-known and enduring track, often appearing on classic rock radio stations and in compilations of 1960s music.
The band has reunited for occasional performances in recent years.
