Fako (department)
Fako is a department located in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. Its capital is Limbe.
Geography:
Fako is situated on the Atlantic coast and includes a portion of Mount Cameroon, the highest peak in West Africa. The department's landscape varies from coastal plains to volcanic slopes. It experiences a tropical climate with high humidity and rainfall.
Administration:
The department is headed by a Senior Divisional Officer (Prefect). It is further divided into sub-divisions (arrondissements). These sub-divisions are:
- Buea
- Limbe I
- Limbe II
- Limbe III
- Tiko
- Muyuka
Demographics:
Fako is a diverse department with a mix of ethnic groups. The Bakweri people are the traditional inhabitants of the coastal areas around Mount Cameroon. Other significant ethnic groups include the Balondo, Oroko, and immigrants from other parts of Cameroon and neighboring countries. English is widely spoken, alongside Pidgin English and local languages.
Economy:
Fako's economy is largely based on agriculture, tourism, and fishing. Important agricultural products include bananas, plantains, rubber, palm oil, and cocoa. The department is also a major tourist destination, attracting visitors to Mount Cameroon, the beaches of Limbe, and other natural attractions. The oil refinery in Limbe is a significant industrial presence.

Tourism plays a vital role in the department's economy. Attractions include:
