Evolve (professional wrestling)
Evolve was an American professional wrestling promotion founded in 2010 by Gabe Sapolsky. It operated as an independent promotion showcasing a hybrid style incorporating elements of technical wrestling, Japanese strong style, and high-flying offense.
Evolve was known for its focus on highlighting emerging talent, often featuring wrestlers who had honed their skills on the independent circuit. The promotion's commitment to showcasing innovative wrestling and its emphasis on character development led to its recognition as a breeding ground for future stars. Many wrestlers who achieved significant success in major promotions, such as WWE and All Elite Wrestling (AEW), initially gained prominence and developed their skills in Evolve.
Key figures associated with Evolve included its founder Gabe Sapolsky, as well as prominent wrestlers like Drew Gulak, Johnny Gargano, Ricochet, Will Ospreay, and Matt Riddle. The promotion held numerous events across the United States and developed a loyal fanbase.
In 2020, WWE acquired Evolve. The purchase included Evolve's video library and allowed WWE to further incorporate independent wrestling talent into its own developmental system. Following the acquisition, Evolve ceased operations. The final Evolve event was held in March 2020.
