Ethan Allen (horse)

Ethan Allen was a famous trotting horse of the 19th century, known for his speed, endurance, and popularity. Foaled in 1849 in New York, he was sired by the thoroughbred stallion Vermont Black Hawk and out of a Morgan mare.

Ethan Allen achieved considerable fame during the 1850s and 1860s, becoming a celebrated figure in the sport of trotting. He was renowned for his distinctive high-stepping gait and his ability to maintain a fast pace over extended distances. He set several records during his career, including a record for trotting a mile in harness, which he lowered multiple times.
