Apango

Apango is a municipality located in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. It is part of the Costa Chica region of the state. The official name is Tecoanapa, with Apango being the municipal seat.

The municipality is known for its predominantly Amuzgo indigenous population and culture. The economy is largely based on agriculture, with crops such as corn, beans, and sesame being cultivated. Traditional crafts, including weaving and pottery, are also important economic activities.

Apango faces challenges common to many rural municipalities in Guerrero, including poverty, limited access to education and healthcare, and emigration.

The history of Apango dates back to pre-Columbian times, and the area was inhabited by the Amuzgo people long before the arrival of the Spanish. The name "Apango" is believed to come from an indigenous language, possibly Nahuatl, and its meaning is related to water or a river.
