Wirth Lake (Minnesota)

Wirth Lake is a freshwater lake located within Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The lake is a popular destination for recreation, offering opportunities for activities such as canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming (at designated beach areas). A paved trail encircles the lake, providing a scenic route for walking, running, and cycling.

The lake is part of the Chain of Lakes Regional Park system, although it is geographically separated from the main chain. It is connected to Bassett Creek, which eventually flows into the Mississippi River.

Wirth Lake is named after Theodore Wirth, a renowned park superintendent who oversaw the development of Minneapolis' park system in the early 20th century. His contributions were instrumental in shaping the city's landscape and creating recreational spaces for its residents. The surrounding park, also named in his honor, is the largest park in Minneapolis, exceeding the size of Central Park in New York City.
