Ernest Klein (chess player)
Ernest Klein (1910 – 1990) was an Austrian and later British chess player and author.
Klein was born in Vienna. He achieved the title of Austrian Chess Master and represented Austria in the 1936 Munich Chess Olympiad. Following the Anschluss in 1938, Klein emigrated to England.
In England, he continued to play chess and became known for his simultaneous exhibitions and chess columns. He was a strong chess teacher and mentored several players. Klein's main contribution to chess literature is his book, The Grunfeld Defence, published in 1937 (in German) and later in English. This work is considered an early and influential study of the Grunfeld Defence opening.
He died in 1990, leaving behind a legacy as a strong player, author, and chess educator.
