Bern-Mittelland (administrative district)

Bern-Mittelland is one of five administrative districts (German: Verwaltungskreise) in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It was established on January 1, 2010, as part of a reorganization of the canton's administrative structure.

The district encompasses a region surrounding the city of Bern, but does not include the city itself. It is primarily composed of municipalities that were formerly part of the Amtsbezirk Bern, the Amtsbezirk Fraubrunnen, and parts of the Amtsbezirk Konolfingen.

The administrative seat of Bern-Mittelland is Ostermundigen. The district is responsible for various cantonal administrative tasks, including, but not limited to, construction permitting, social welfare, and maintaining public safety in the constituent municipalities. It serves as an intermediary between the cantonal government and the local communes.

The municipalities within Bern-Mittelland offer a mix of urban, suburban, and rural characteristics. The economy is diverse, including agriculture, industry, and services, with a significant portion of the workforce commuting to Bern.
