Tony Clegg (businessman)
Tony Clegg (born c. 1940s, died 2016) was a British businessman best known for his role in the development of leisure and entertainment company Granada.
Clegg joined Granada in the 1960s and rose through the ranks, eventually becoming chairman in 1996. During his tenure, he oversaw significant expansion and diversification of the company. He played a key role in Granada's acquisition of Forte in 2001, creating a hospitality and leisure giant. This acquisition was later subject to scrutiny and ultimately led to the split of Granada Media and Granada Compass (later renamed Compass Group).
Following the demerger, Clegg stepped down as chairman of Granada Media in 2004. He remained involved in various business ventures after leaving Granada, including investments in property and technology.
Clegg was known for his strategic vision and deal-making abilities, shaping Granada into a major player in the media and leisure industries. His contributions were recognized within the business community. He died in 2016 after a long illness.
