Emad (missile)

The Emad is an Iranian long-range, liquid-fueled, surface-to-surface ballistic missile. It is considered a significant advancement over earlier Iranian missile designs, particularly in its improved accuracy and maneuverability.

Development of the Emad missile was publicly announced in 2015, and it was officially unveiled in 2016. Key features of the Emad missile are its alleged capability for precision guidance using a maneuvering reentry vehicle (MARV). This MARV is designed to adjust its trajectory during its terminal phase, making it more difficult to intercept and increasing its accuracy against mobile or hardened targets.

The Emad's estimated range is around 1,700 kilometers, putting it within reach of targets throughout the Middle East, including Israel and Saudi Arabia. The missile is believed to carry a conventional high-explosive warhead.

The development and deployment of the Emad missile have raised concerns internationally, particularly regarding Iran's ballistic missile program and its potential impact on regional stability. The missile is considered a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 which restricts Iran's activities related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. The Iranian government maintains that its missile program is defensive in nature and not intended for nuclear weapons delivery.
