Edmonton Storm (football)
The Edmonton Storm was a proposed Canadian Football League (CFL) expansion franchise slated to begin play in 1995. The team was awarded to Edmonton businessman Bruce Gordon, who had previously owned the Edmonton Trappers minor league baseball team.
The Storm's logo was intended to feature a stylized lightning bolt and the team colors were planned to be teal, purple, and silver. However, the franchise never materialized due to financial difficulties and a lack of securing a suitable stadium deal. The proposed stadium, initially envisioned as a domed facility, faced significant opposition and funding challenges.
Ultimately, the CFL decided to proceed with an expansion franchise in Winnipeg, Manitoba, instead of Edmonton, and the Edmonton Storm never played a game. The name "Edmonton Storm" is now largely relegated to sports history trivia within the context of unfulfilled CFL expansion plans.
