EGX (expo)
EGX is a series of video game expo events held annually in the United Kingdom and formerly in other European locations. Primarily focused on allowing attendees to play upcoming video games before release, EGX also features developer sessions, esports tournaments, cosplay competitions, and an opportunity for independent game developers to showcase their work.
Originally known as the Eurogamer Expo, it was founded by Eurogamer.net in 2008. Over the years, it has become one of the largest gaming events in the UK, attracting both industry professionals and general gaming enthusiasts.
The main draw for many attendees is the opportunity to get hands-on experience with unreleased games, often months before their official launch. Major publishers such as Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Ubisoft regularly showcase their titles at EGX.
Beyond playable demos, EGX also offers a platform for developers to share insights into the creation process through talks and Q&A sessions. These sessions provide valuable information for aspiring game developers and offer fans a deeper understanding of the games they enjoy.
The expo also incorporates an area dedicated to indie games, providing independent developers with a space to exhibit their work to a wider audience and gain valuable feedback. This section of EGX is often regarded as a highlight, showcasing innovative and experimental games.
Esports tournaments have become a prominent feature of EGX, attracting both professional players and spectators. These tournaments cover a range of popular games and contribute to the event's overall atmosphere of competitive gaming.
In recent years, EGX has expanded to include other forms of entertainment, such as board games and tabletop role-playing games, further diversifying its appeal.
